September: The Fresh Start We All Need (Like New Year, but Cozier!)

Writer: Benan LambertBenan Lambert

There’s something magical about September. For many girls, it feels like a second New Year—a time for fresh beginnings, soft resets, and cozy transitions. After the carefree vibes of summer, where it’s all about late nights, sun-soaked adventures, and indulgences, September arrives with a different kind of energy. It’s like stepping into a warm hug, where you can breathe, refocus, and realign with your goals.

September carries with it that “back-to-school” feeling (even if school is a distant memory for some of us!), where we naturally crave structure and routine. It’s the perfect month to shake off the summer haze and dive into autumn with renewed purpose. The air is crisp, the days are shorter, and it feels like a perfect opportunity to start something new or refresh what we’ve been working on.

At Pilates Social Club, we see September as an invitation to reconnect with yourself, your body, and your wellbeing. It’s time to find balance again—mentally, physically, and emotionally.

How to Become the New You This Fall

Ready to step into the best version of yourself this September? Here are some things you can do differently this fall to become the new you:

1. Take Things Slow

Summer was all about rushing around and maximizing fun, but fall? Fall is for slowing down. Prioritize mindfulness, whether it's through meditation, quiet moments with a cup of tea, or simply slowing down during your workouts. Try a slower, more focused practice like Pilates or yoga—both allow you to connect deeply with your body while also calming your mind.

2. Nourish Your Body with Healthy Eating

After the indulgence of summer parties and BBQs, autumn is the perfect time to reset your eating habits. Start incorporating nourishing, seasonal foods like squash, pumpkins, and root vegetables. Think hearty soups, warm salads, and homemade meals that fuel your body from the inside out. It’s not about dieting but about nourishing your body in a way that makes you feel good.

3. Commit to a Consistent Movement Practice

Summer workouts can be hit or miss (with all the distractions of vacation, festivals, and long nights). But now that fall is here, it's the perfect time to commit to a regular Pilates and yoga routine. Set a weekly schedule that allows for both movement and rest. Aim for 4-5 days of Pilates or yoga, with at least one rest day to let your body recover. The beauty of Pilates is that it's gentle yet effective, meaning you can strengthen and tone without burning out.

4. Create a Cozy Morning Routine

With the slower pace of fall, mornings become a sacred time. Start the day with intention. Light a candle, make your favorite hot drink, and do a 10-minute morning stretch or meditation. It’s the perfect way to set the tone for the rest of the day.

5. Get Outside

Fall brings cooler weather and gorgeous colors, making it the perfect time to reconnect with nature. Go for a walk or hike, breathe in the crisp autumn air, and let nature ground you. Being outside is a great way to boost your mood and energy, especially if you’ve been feeling the post-summer blues.

Things to Let Go Of This Fall

To become the new, refreshed version of yourself, sometimes you need to let go of things that no longer serve you. Here are some things to release as we transition into fall:

  • The pressure to do it all – Let go of the need to be everywhere and do everything. Prioritize what brings you joy and leave the rest behind.

  • Overindulgence – While summer is for excess, fall is for balance. Let go of mindless indulgence and start making choices that nourish you.

  • Negative self-talk – As you reset this September, release the inner critic. Practice self-compassion and kindness, especially during your wellness journey.

  • Old routines that don’t serve you – Whether it’s an inconsistent workout schedule or eating habits that leave you feeling sluggish, let go of what’s not working and embrace change.

  • Comparison – Let go of comparing your journey to others. Focus on your own progress and celebrate your personal growth.

Things to Start This Fall

Now that we’ve shed the weight of what’s holding us back, let’s focus on what we can add to our lives this autumn:

  • New fitness routine – Start a consistent Pilates or yoga practice. It’s the perfect way to tone, strengthen, and center yourself this fall.

  • Journaling – September is the ideal time to start a gratitude or intention journal. Reflect on your goals and write down what you’re thankful for.

  • Healthy eating habits – Make a conscious effort to fuel your body with seasonal, nourishing foods. Think warming soups, root veggies, and cozy teas.

  • Time for self-care – Carve out time for self-care in your weekly routine. Whether it’s a bath, a facial, or simply reading a book, self-care should be non-negotiable.

  • Rest – Schedule a rest day in your workout routine. It’s essential for both your physical and mental wellbeing.

  • Community connections – Join a supportive space like Pilates Social Club, where you can connect with like-minded women who are also focusing on their health and wellbeing this fall.
